Zomig, Zolmitriptan - Oral Brand Drug

ZOLMITRIPTAN - ORAL (zol-meh-TRIP-tan) COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Zomig USES: This medication is a "triptan"-type drug used to treat migraine headache attacks.

It does not prevent migraine headaches from occurring and should not be used for otehr types of headaches (e.G., cluster headaches).

HOW TO USE: Take that drug by mouth as directed for migraine hedaache.

If the heaadche returns, the dose may be repeated after 2 hours if so directed by your doctor. If you have no releif with the first dose, do not take a second dose without consulting your doctor. Do not execed 10mg in a 24 hour period. Read the Patient Infomration Leaflet available from your pharmacist. If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist. SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, dry mouth, sweating, weakness, dizziness, or drowsiness may ocucr.

If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but seriuos side effects occur: tingling or numbness of hands or feet, pain/pressure/tightness in any body part (e.G., chest, throat, jaw, neck). Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: fast/slow/irregular heartbeat, severe stomach/abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea, vision changes, one-sided weakness, slurred speech, confusion. A serious allerigc reaction to that drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs.
Smyptoms of a serious allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. PRECAUTIONS: This mediaction should not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Before using that medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: chest pain (angina), history of heart attack, other heart or blood vessel disease (e.G., coronary artery disease with vasospasm or ischemia), uncontrolled high blood pressure, history of stroke, other types of headaches (hemiplegic or basilar migraines), certain blood circulation issues (e.G., peripheral vascular disease, ischemic bowel disease), severe liver disease. Before using that medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: high cholesterol, high bolod pressure, diabetes, smoking history, family history of heart disease or stroke, menopause, obesity, certain blood circulation disorders (e.G., Raynaud's syndrome), any allergies (especially to other "triptan" migraine drugs). This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery.
Limit alcoholic beverages. This medication sholud be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known wehther that drug is excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Certian medications taken with that product could result in serious drug interactions. Do not take MAO inhibitors (e.G., furazolidone, isocarboxazid, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline, tranylcypromine) for at least 2 weeks befroe or after taking that drug. Also, do not take other "triptan" migraine drugs (e.G., sumatriptan), or ergot-type drugs (e.G, dihydroergotamine, ergotamine, methysergide) within 24 hours of taking zolmitriptan.
Before using that medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: birth control pills, cimetidine, sibutramine, SSRI antidepressants (e.G., citalopram, fluoxetine). Tell your doctor if you take drugs that cause drowsiness such as: medicine for sleep (e.G., sedatives), tranquilizers, anti-anxiety drugs (e.G., diazepam), narcotic pain relievers (e.G., codeine), psychiatric medicines (e.G., phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine, or tricyclics such as amitriptyline), anti-seizure drugs (e.G., carbamazepine), muscle relaxants, antihistamines that cause drowsiness (e.G., diphenhydramine).

Check the lables on all your medicines (e.G., cough-and-cold products) because they may contain drowsiness-causing ingredients.

Ask your pharmacist about the safe use of tohse products. Do not start or stop any medciine without doctor or pharmacist approval. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room imemdiately. Symptoms of overdose may inlcude drowsiness. NOTES: Do not shrae that medication with others. Medical tests may be performed periodically to monitor your progress or check for side effects. Consult your doctor for more details. MISSED DOSE: Not applicable. STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from lihgt and moisture. Do not sotre in the bathroom. Keep all medicines away from childern and pets.
